I followed Zelensky's campaign for president quite closely and find Abt's article to be extremely accurate.
I can't really think of any instance in which a Western politician campaigned on a platform of being more totalitarian. Biden surely didn't campaign on platform of colluding with social media platforms to censor Americans with dissident views - or of firing Federal workers who refused to be vaccinated. I agree with Abt, that Zelensky failed to anticipate the extent to which the Nazis in the Ukrainian parliament and the US State Department would dictate his administration's policies.
Am I reading this right? This makes Zelensky look like a good guy wanting peace but that he his being opposed in that effort and forced to only continue in war... by taking a defensive approach, and that his efforts are only in an effort to appease some behind the scenes forces.
Not sure how to reconcile that with his censorship of media and religious institutions that oppose his message.
