We were sold on the mammogram benefits - instead it hurt us.

I was always concerned about the repeated radiation exposure of mammograms - especially after learning in 1988 that sonograms were far safer and more effective. That never made sense to me. I made a pact with my mother 20 years ago before she died that we would never have one.

You were smart - so early! I have not had one in years but did start at 40. The radiation damaged my thyroid within one year.

Always go with your gut. I’ve always refused these tests because my gut told me too. My mother’s benign lump only became cancerous after she was talked into having a mammogram and the same Ruth my sisters. We can no longer trust health services.

You have good instincts, Paddy. My current approach is to disbelieve any government public health advice until I investigate for myself.
