We are at war

I am by no means a frequent traveler, but I recently returned from visiting my mother in the DC area. The line to check bags for Southwest at Reagan National was about 45 minutes long. As I reached the front of the line, the baggage check people announced they would have to pause processing the bags, as the people who take those bags and move them to the airplanes weren't doing their job - the bags were piling up behind the counter and there was almost no room for the baggage check people to move.

I had never experienced such a line in checking bags before and hadn't budgeted time for it. Fortunately, the security checkpoint wasn't long and I made the gate with about 10 minutes to spare. My checked bag even made the flight, even with a "late check-in" tag on it.

After I boarded the plane, the pilot announced that our route was "closed" and we would have to wait for another route to be made. No further explanation on that. I don't think there was any bad weather. As it was, the flight itself (DC to Kansas City) didn't take any longer than normal, so either it didn't need much redirecting or the situation cleared up.

Maybe an air traffic controller got sick and they had to find a substitute? Or there was a terror scare somewhere along the route?

Also, I have a flight scheduled in October. One of the legs I scheduled has been canceled already.
